Finally, after months of work, the woody is finished! w000000! A few statistics:
- 5 panels of ACX plywood
- A bunch of 2×4, 2×6, and 2×8 lumber
- 1100 tnuts (yes, I know, massive overkill)
- At least 60 5/16″ lag bolts of various lengths
- At least a thousand dry wall screws of various lengths
- About 120 holds, from three ball climbing, nicros, and metolius
- 4 mad rock mad pads, 1 metolius crash pad

Awesome. Price range?
About $900 in building supplies, $600 so far in holds, and $450 for the bouldering pads, so about $2k in total. It could be done more cheaply. Mine is definitely overbuilt, so you could probably cut the building supplies by about $200, and buying used holds and pads would make it quite a bit cheaper. I figure a membership at the rock gym is $600 / year + gas and time driving, so this thing will pay for itself in a year and a half or so.
A friend, Ben from SickyGnar, passed on the link to your blog. Have to say – I’m extremely impressed with your bouldering cave. Mad DIY skills!!
Thank you! It is a lot of fun being able to walk out your garage door and boulder whenever you want. =)
I can’t take all the credit for building though, I had ample help from my father in law who is a construction extraordinaire!
